Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden

After a tour of duty with the Peace Corps, Mary Chandler is back temporarily working on the Endangered Plant Advisory  Council (EPAC) grant administered through the Florida Dept. Of Agriculture.  She is Tagging endangered species in the Garden for tracking.  The Garden is the Steward of this area of critical concern.  Not only saving species in- situ, but propagating those species in our nursery for distribution to the community every 3rd Saturday at our plant sales.Image attachment

Key West Art & Historical Society

#OTD in 1960, the Audubon House at the corner of Whitehead and Greene Streets formally opened as a museum with the Mitchell Wolfson family, who financed the renovations of the building.  This date also witnessed the first Old Island Days celebrations organized by Jessie Porter Kirke Newton, Reta Sawyer and others with seven homes open to visitors, a tradition that continues to this day.  #audubonhouse #geigerhouse #keywest
